Annual DC Turkish Heritage Month Kicks Off This Sunday, Virtually!
“Explore the Wonders of Turkey and a Virtual Tour of Anatolia this Fall”
Renowned for fostering friendship between Turkish and American people for 55 years, the American-Turkish Association of Washington DC (ATADC) is delighted to announce the 2020 Virtual Turkish Heritage Month. It will include a series of cross-cultural events and fun workshops throughout September and October. The kick-off activities will take place on September 27th on the same date when the annual Turkish Festival was originally planned for 2020.
“ATA-DC founded in 1965, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote crosscultural understanding between the Turkish and non-Turkish communities in the Washington DC area”. said Patsy Jones, the chair of the festival committee. “We have been organizing the community-supported Turkish Festival in the heart of the nation’s capital for 17 years to share our cultural heritage with our non-Turkish friends. However, this year, our volunteer-led organization is pivoting the festival and heritage month event series to online platforms to keep our community safe. In honor of the Annual Turkish Festival which once again has been presented with the “Best Arts and Cultural Festival of 2020” award by the Washington City Paper readers, we will connect communities through fun webinars and invite Washingtonians to join our annual festivities virtually”.
The month-long event series aim to build a cultural bridge between the nation’s capital and
Anatolia, also known as Asia minor or the part of Turkey that lies in Asia, through cuisine, art, and cultural exchange. The kick-off events scheduled for Sunday, September 27th will be featuring prominent Turkish artists and writers.
