ATA-DC is delighted to host and present its 2020 International Women’s Day Award to Director, Producer, Writer Binnur Karaevli at a special Documentary Screening and Celebration on March 7.

Binnur Karaevli is a writer, producer and director. She is the Executive Producer and Writer of The Protector, first Turkish Netflix International Originals series. She was raised in Istanbul and earned her BFA in Drama from Carnegie-Mellon University and her MFA in Film Production from University of Southern California. Right after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University, Binnur worked at the Arena Stage, San Diego Repertory Theatre and the Los Angeles Theatre Center as an Assistant Director and a Dramaturge. Her short narrative films, “Dance of the Whirling Dervish” and “Evelyn of the Desert” received top prizes from festivals including Nürnberg and New Orleans. She also produced and directed “Searching for Paradise”, which won awards at the Moondance and WinFemme International Film Festivals. Her feature documentary, “Voices Unveiled” has won awards at the SEE Los Angeles Film Festival and Rome Independent Film Festival in 2010. Her latest documentary feature is “The Eye of Istanbul: The Life and Photographs of Ara Guler”, which won the Best of the Fest award at the Washington DC Independent Film Festival in 2016 and was officially selected to screen at The Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival and SEE Los Angeles Film Festival.
