Privacy Policy

Protecting your privacy is our priority. This Statement of Privacy applies to the American Turkish Association, Inc. of Washington, D.C. (doing business as “ATA-DC,” and referred to in this Policy as “ATA-DC,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) and governs data collection and usage. For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, unless otherwise noted, all references to ATA-DC include the American Turkish Association, Inc. of Washington, D.C. organization. ATA-DC is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. By using this website or our mobile application (the “App”), you consent to the data practices described in this Statement.

Collection of your Personal Information

In order to better serve you, we may collect personally identifiable information, such as your first and last name, mailing address, your email address and telephone number. This information may be used to notify you of our programs, activities, and our events, as well as, to request donations or to obtain your input in certain matters.

When you make a purchase, a financial contribution, or register for a class or a special event we ask for your billing and credit card information. This information is solely used to complete the financial transaction.

We do not collect any personal information about you unless you voluntarily provide it to us. However, you may be required to provide certain information to us when you elect to use certain services or products available on the Site. These may include: (a) registering for an event on our site; (b) entering a sweepstakes or contest sponsored by us or one of our partners; (c) signing up for special offers from us or selected third parties; (d) sending us an email message; (e) submitting your credit card or other payment information when making a financial distribution or ordering and purchasing products or services on our website. To wit, we will use your information for, but not limited to, communicating with you in relation to services and/or products you have requested from us. We also may gather additional personal or nonpersonal information in the future.

Use of your Personal Information

ATA-DC collects and uses your personal information to operate its website and deliver the services you requested. ATA-DC may also use your personally identifiable information to inform you of other events, products or services available from ATA-DC and its affiliates.

Sharing Information with Third Parties

ATA-DC does not sell, rent or lease its member lists to third parties. Occasionally, ATA-DC may share your personal information with affiliated third party vendors and partners for the purpose of completing orders, managing data, or processing donations and credit card transactions. ATA-DC may also disclose your personal information, without notice, if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on ATA-DC or the site; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of ATA-DC; and/ or (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of ATA-DC, or the public. ATA-DC does not sell, and does not “share” for cross-context behavioral advertising, your personal information. The affiliated vendors and service providers we use include our payment processor and the App service providers identified below, each of which is contractually permitted to use your information only to provide services to ATA-DC.

Tracking User Behavior

ATA-DC may keep track of the pages our users visit within the ATA-DC website, in order to determine what ATA-DC services are the most popular. This data is used to deliver customized content and to improve our Services. ATA-DC does not use this information to deliver third-party or cross-context behavioral advertising, and does not sell it.

Use of Cookies

The ATA-DC website may use “cookies” to help you personalize your online experience. One of the primary purposes of cookies is to provide a convenience feature to save you time. You have the ability to accept or decline cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. If you choose to decline cookies, you may not be able to fully experience the interactive features of the ATA-DC services or sites you visit. Our mobile App does not use browser cookies, but the App and the third-party services it uses may rely on mobile device identifiers and similar technologies, as described in the “Information Collected Through the App” and “Third-Party Services Used in the App” sections below.

Security of your Personal Information

ATA DC secures your personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. ATA DC uses SSL protocol for this purpose. When personal information (such as credit card information) is transmitted to other websites, it is protected through the use of encryption, such as the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol.

We strive to take appropriate security measures to protect against unauthorized access to or alteration of your personal information. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the internet or any wireless network can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Therefore, while we strive to protect your personal information, you acknowledge that (a) there are security and privacy limitations inherent to the internet which are beyond our control and (b) security and privacy of any and all information and data exchanged between you and us through this Site cannot be guaranteed.

ATA-DC retains personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, to maintain your membership, to comply with our legal, tax, and accounting obligations as a 501(c)(3) organization, to resolve disputes, and to enforce our agreements. When personal information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it. We do not retain children’s personal information longer than reasonably necessary.

Opt-Out & Unsubscribe from Email Communications

We respect your privacy and give you an opportunity to opt-out of receiving announcements of certain information. Users/Members may opt-out of receiving any or all communications from ATA-DC or third party partners by clicking the Unsubscribe button at the bottom of each email.

ATA-DC is a nonprofit organization and may not be a “business” subject to the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”). Nevertheless, to the extent the CCPA or other U.S. state privacy laws apply, California residents have the right to: (i) know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect, use, and disclose; (ii) request deletion of personal information; (iii) request correction of inaccurate personal information; and (iv) opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. ATA-DC does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. To submit a request, contact us using the information in the “Contact Information” section below; we may need to verify your identity before responding. We will respond to verifiable requests within 45 days of receipt. If we need additional time (up to an additional 45 days), we will notify you of the extension within the initial 45-day period.

ATA-DC is based in the United States, and your information will be processed in the United States. If you access the Services from outside the United States, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in a country with data-protection laws different from those in your jurisdiction. To the extent the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation applies to our processing, our legal bases are your consent, the performance of a contract (such as managing your membership), compliance with legal obligations, and our legitimate interests in operating and improving the Services. Where applicable, you have the rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and to data portability, and you may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Changes to this Statement

ATA-DC reserves the right to change this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you about significant changes in the way we treat personal information by sending a notice to the primary email address specified in your account, by placing a prominent notice on our site, and/or by updating any privacy information on this page. Your continued use of the Site and/or services available through this Site after such modifications will constitute your (a) acknowledgement of the modified Privacy Policy; and (b) agreement to abide and be bound by that Policy. For the App, we may also provide notice of changes through the App or the applicable app store. Where required by law—including for any material change affecting personal information previously collected from a child under 13—we will obtain the required consent before applying the change.

This Privacy Policy also applies to the ATA-DC mobile application (the “App”) available on iOS and Android platforms. By downloading and using the App, you consent to the data practices described in this Policy as they apply to the App.

In addition to the information described above, the App may collect the following:

• Device Information: We may collect information about your mobile device, including device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers, solely for the purpose of providing and improving the App experience.
• Push Notification Tokens: If you enable push notifications, we collect a device push token depending on the configuration of our push-notification provider (One-Signal), may also process your IP address and device identifiers to deliver announcements and updates from ATA-DC to your device. You may disable push notifications at any time through your device settings.
• Authentication Information: If you choose to log in to your ATA-DC membership account through the App, your email address and password are used solely to authenticate your identity and retrieve your membership information. Authentication may occur directly within the App or through the ATA-DC membership portal at atadc.org. Your password is transmitted over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) and stored on our servers only in a secured, hashed form that cannot be read or retrieved by ATA-DC staff. We do not have access to your plain-text password.
• Usage Analytics: The App uses Firebase Analytics, provided by Google, to collect data about how users interact with the App, such as screens viewed and features used. identity. Firebase generates an app-instance identifier and may collect device and advertising identifiers (such as the iOS Identifier for Vendors and the Android Advertising ID). This information is pseudonymous rather than anonymous, and is used to understand usage and improve the App. Google processes this data in accordance with its own privacy policy.
• We retain personal information collected through the App for as long as necessary to provide our services or as required by law. You may request deletion of your data by contacting us at membership@atadc.org, or by using the methods described in the “Account and Data Deletion” section below.

The App uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:

• OneSignal (push notification delivery): https://onesignal.com/privacy_policy
• Firebase by Google (analytics): https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
• Payment processing: payments and donations are handled by Square, Stripe, and/or PayPal, each of which processes your payment information under its own privacy policy.
• App stores: the Apple App Store and Google Play process certain data in connection with your download and use of the App under their own privacy policies.

If you create or log in to a membership account through the App, you may delete your account and associated personal information at any time. You can do this within the App (Settings → Account → Delete Account), by submitting a request at atadc.org, or by emailing membership@atadc.org. We will delete or de-identify your personal information except where we are required or permitted by law to retain it (for example, records needed for tax, accounting, or legal-compliance purposes). Uninstalling the App stops further collection from your device but does not by itself delete information already collected; please use one of the methods above to request deletion.

You may disable push notifications at any time in your device’s notification settings. You may also delete your app data by uninstalling the App from your device. On iOS, you can limit ad tracking and reset your advertising identifier in Settings; on Android, you can reset or delete your Advertising ID and opt out of ads personalization in Settings. Where the App offers an analytics opt-out, you may use it to stop analytics collection.

The Services, including the App, are intended for users 13 years of age or older and are not directed to children under 13. ATA-DC does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verifiable parental consent, we will delete that information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 may have provided us personal information, please contact us at membership@atadc.org.

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” signal or the Global Privacy Control. Because there is not yet a common industry standard for responding to these signals, our Services do not currently respond to them. We will update this Policy if that practice changes.
